Pay Parking in Ambleside

November 10, 2024

After implementation of pay parking in some West Vancouver parks, Council will be considering implementing pay parking in Ambleside Park, John Lawson Park, Argyle Avenue and Dundarave Park (including lower Bellevue south of the railway tracks).

While the ADBIA understands the costs of maintaining our parks and the fact that many of those that enjoy our parks come from areas outside of West Vancouver, implementing pay parking on Argyle Avenue, John Lawson Park and in Dundarave stands to have a very big impact on our commercial area as those that choose to seek free parking will then park on Bellevue, Marine Drive, Clyde and side streets, increasing the difficulty for those visiting our businesses to find parking when they are shopping and have appointments.

Our businesses tell us that one of the biggest problems for their customers is parking. Currently, most commercial area parking is designated a two hour limit but this is not being strictly enforced. Until such time that we can ensure the time limitation in our commercial area is enforced, the ADBIA cannot support implementing pay parking on Argyle, John Lawson Park, or in Dundarave.

This agenda item is to be considered this Monday’s Council meeting – November 18th and the full report can be viewed here [PDF].

If you have a concern about our commercial parking and the impact pay parking in our parks could have on our local businesses, please share these thoughts with Council before noon on November 18th.
