90 Minutes of Free Parking Coming to Ambleside Park

At last Monday night’s Council meeting, West Vancouver Council voted to introduce the first 90 minutes parking free in Ambleside Park. We would like to acknowledge Mayor Sager and Councillors Snider, Thompson, and Gambioli for supporting this initiative and recognizing the concerns raised by local businesses and residents.

While implementation and updated signage will take several weeks, we are hopeful this approach will help ease some of the parking pressures currently being experienced in nearby commercial areas and surrounding residential neighbourhoods, while still generating revenue to support the ongoing maintenance and care of Ambleside Park. We will share details on the implementation for the 90 minutes of free parking as soon as they are available.

Council also directed several additional measures at the May 11 meeting, including enhanced parking signage throughout the commercial district and a fulsome parking study of both the business area and adjacent residential neighbourhoods. This work will help identify opportunities to reduce parking spillover into residential streets and create greater consistency in parking time limits throughout the commercial area.

While the ADBIA strongly advocated for a change to the current parking approach, we are extremely grateful to the many residents who took the time to write to Mayor and Council, to those who made an extra effort to continue shopping and dining locally, and to everyone who reached out to us with emails of encouragement throughout this process. Your support has truly reflected the ADBIA’s core message that “It Takes A Village to Make A Village.”
